98 Not Out with special guest Ricky Ellcock, cricketer turned pilot!

Ricky’s excellent and inspiring book “Balls to Fly” – out now!

As England’s Men lose again in the ODI against India after falling to a record T20 defeat and the Women lose The Ashes 16-0 Down Under, it’s a pretty grim time for cricket fans…

Special guest this week is the inspirational Ricky Ellcock, the Barbadian who was spirited over to England at the age of 14 by Malvern College to play cricket for the school. He soon progressed up through the county ranks at Worcestershire then Middlesex and was selected for England before a series of back injuries ended a promising career. Undaunted, Ricky retrained as an airline pilot and became the first black captain to fly for Virgin Atlantic, but then a freak accident left him with severe brain traumas and his flying was put on hold. Despite all that, “the Miracle Boy” has lived to tell the tale and has written a book about his life, “Balls to Fly” and he joins us to talk all about it.
