Episode 10- Diabetes Awareness

November is Diabetes Awareness Month- so on today’s show I bring you the facts, health and well being tips as well as play music with links to sugar, sweetness and candy.
Diabetes is a chronic health condition where your blood sugar levels are too high. When we think of diabetes, we usually think of sugar, but it’s really about insulin—a hormone that helps regulate blood sugar and gives us energy. When insulin doesn’t work right or isn’t there at all, diabetes develops.
Type 2 diabetes typically starts after a person turns 45 Ironically, this is also the same time women are going through perimenopause.

Menopause causes a sharp decrease in estrogen levels in the body, leading to various changes that can affect body weight, fat distribution, and insulin sensitivity. Menopause itself has not been found to raise the risk of diabetes. However, it can affect how our body uses blood sugar (glucose).
If you’re experiencing symptoms like excessive thirst, frequent urination, fatigue, blurry vision, or unexplained weight loss, it’s worth speaking to your GP. A quick blood test could help determine if diabetes is a concern, and catching it early is key to managing it well.

Mindfulness, meditation and yoga can help reduce stress which lowers cortisol reducing our need for sugar.
