The subject chosen by Margaret Mills for of this week’s historical feature, concerned Billericay during the winter of 1766, where on the 18th January the town was hit by a blizzard like no other, with snow lying between 6 and 10 feet deep.
Not surprisingly this resulted in the Rochford to London coach becoming totally buried.
Apparently it required the efforts of 30 men over a period of 3 days to clear a path and free the coach.
