One 2 Three Friday 22.8.25 Lynne Dejoodt Chess homeless

Lynne talked about the latest developments and needs of this homeless charity that works across five local authorities. They seek to ensure people who find themselves homeless are supported in ways that enable them to move forward purposely and in good health. Lynne read an article from a man who was living onn the streets. Through his involvement with CHESS he has turned his life around. He is now working for CHESS in a role meeting people living on the streets. Before the pandemic in 2020 CHESS had 32 clients living in 6 properties. Now they work with 88 people in 11 properties. The Turning point project is the latest property, now offering 24 single self-contained accommodation units for those will long-term needs. You can also get involved by fundraising, donating, volunteering or being involved with an event. There will be a CHESS team of 7 riders in the London to Brighton Cycle event on 14th of September. They can all be sponsored through Justgiving. Harvest is a significant time where schools and other organisations can organise collections. For £10 you can take part in the Big Sleep Out on £17 and then be sponsored.

Tears for Fears – Sowing the seeds of love – one of the tracks chosen by Matthew King, studio guest last week. He is Chief executive of https://www.trustlinks.org. He said that the work of this charity through therapeutic gardening and it’s wider activities are sowing the seeds of love. Last year their 62 staff and 150 volunteers had direct contact with 4500 users and 7000 people in total across their 7 sites.  They will soon be launching a wellbeing app.

Marvin Gaye – What’s going on – title track from the 1970 album no 1 in the 2020 & 2023 Rolling Stone Greatest albums of all time. Lynne feels she often looks round at the world and asks,”what’s going on?” The track is as relevant as it was 55 years ago.

Blue Mink – Good morning freedom. 1970 UK no 10 Also charted 4 more countries. One of numerous hits that Roger Cooke wrote, many with Roger Greenaway. He also performed in this band. Roger also celebrated his birthday on Tuesday. He is 85 years old.

Jamie Cullum – Everlasting love. 2004 UK no 20, also charted in 2 more countries. From the album – Twenty something – UK no 3. Top in 5 more countries & Top 20 in another 3 countries, selling over 2 million in total. Jamie’s birthday was on Wednesday and he is 46 years old.
