Richard Graham Sarsted, known by the stage name Eden Kane, is an English pop/rock singer, musician, record producer and actor best known as a teen idol in the early 1960s,
Born in British India, he is the elder brother of singer-songwriter Peter Sarstedt and singer Clive (Robin) Sarstedt, with whom he collaborated on numerous Sarstedt Brothers albums. He had success in the early 1960s as a pop star appealing to a teenage audience, in the pre-Beatles era with hits including the co-written “Well I Ask You” which was a UK No. 1 hit in 1961, he then spent time in Australia before moving to the United States, where he began an acting career.
Andy Gilson caught up with Eden Kane on zoom recently and today we heard that interview as well as a brand new song from Eden Kane recorded at the age of 85!
My thanks to Andy Gilson for sharing the great interview. You can listen here –

A six-mile stretch of the M25 between two Essex junctions is set to have its lights switched off for at least a year.
I was sitting in my garden last Friday morning enjoying the peace and quiet when a loud BOOM disturbed my reverie.
Today’s Birthdays

1949 – Phil Lynott, Irish singer-songwriter, bass player, and producer (died 1986) – He was the co-founder, lead vocalist, bassist, and primary songwriter for the hard rock band Thin Lizzy.
1979 – Jamie Cullum, English singer-songwriter and pianist
1992 – Demi Lovato, American singer-songwriter and actress
Martin’s Choice – This week I’m going to request a song by four lads from the Isle of Wight who back in the late 70s cut their cloth playing in holiday camps and clubs around the Island. This provided them with valuable early exposure and helped them develop their sound.
They decided to write and record their own songs but needed a name for the band?
They came up with the name “Level 42” which came from the book “The Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy” by Douglas Adam’s.
In the story “42” is revealed as the answer to the ultimate question of life, the universe and everything. The band added “Level” to the number as the record company felt “42” was too short!
The group consisted of bassist Mark King, keyboardist Mike Lindup, guitarist Rowland “Boon” Gould and drummer Phil Gould.
Before achieving international success Level 42’s highest-charting single in the UK was “Lessons in Love” which reached number three in the UK singles chart and number 12 in the US upon its release in 1986. An earlier single, “Something About You” was their most successful hit in the United States, reaching number 7 in the charts.
After much success as a live and studio band in the 1980s, Level 42’s commercial profile diminished during the early 1990s following a series of personnel changes and musical shifts. Disbanding in 1994, the band reformed in 2001.
They still tour to this day but with different lineups, Mark King and Mike Lindup are the only original members still playing in the band.
I found this band back in 1980 and I was knocked out by Mark Kings Bass playing and the whole jazz funk Vibe thing that this band was creating.
For my song request this week I’m going right back to their very first Album released in 1980 titled the same name as the band “Level 42” The track is called “Turn It On” it’s the first track on the first side of what was the old vinyl albums in those days, I first heard this song on a Robby Vincent Show all those years ago and fell in love with it. The rest is history as they say !!
Enjoy !!
