Nomad made to feel at home in the studio

Paul Golder writes for the Brentwood Gazette

There are so many local bands who are quietly – or noisily – doing their own thing that we are still discovering them, after almost 30 years on air!

Michelle Ward was recently joined in the studio by Steve Duke, Rick Wills and Dave Lee from local band Nomad.

Nomad started in 2017 by trumpet player Larry Harper who recruited Steve, Rick and Dave. The trio blends modern jazz-based music with vibrant world rhythms, creating a truly unique sound.

After the pandemic, the band emerged with a debut album, Turning Point, featuring 8 tunes composed by the band members.

Influences reflect the trio’s love of American and European jazz, and also incorporates musical styles from around the globe – Africa, India, the Far East, the Caribbean and many more.

We had the pleasure of listening to two of their stunning original compositions: “Tanguito” and “Orchestre Nomade”, both from their new album set for release next month.

You can find out more about the band at www.nomadjazz.co.uk and hear their interview with Michelle again at www.phoenixfm.com.
