Talented youngsters are made of the write stuff

Paul Golder writes for the Brentwood Gazette

It’s always great to welcome some budding authors of the future into the Phoenix FM studio.

Peter Gurton and Carley-Ann Osborn are two Essex teachers and authors who recently ran a writing competition for children across three Essex schools – The Maltings Academy in Witham, Alec Hunter in Braintree and Lyons Hall in Braintree.

The competition winners will have their work included in a book for sale through Amazon, with profits going to the NSPCC.

It’s the first year the event is taking place, and if successful it will be expanded to take in more Essex schools next year.

Peter and Carley-Ann visited Spencer Carter during his Saturday morning show to tell our listeners all about the inspiration behind the idea, and some of the fantastic entries that they have received.

Molly Lawrence, Isabella Haj-Jabbiri and Ella Shaughnessy were also in the studio to talk about their experiences.

You can hear the interview again at phoenixfm.com – and hopefully we’ll be covering it again next year too.
