In the UK, about 1 in 8 men will get prostate cancer in their lifetime.
Prostate cancer mainly affects men over 50, and risk increases with age. The risk is even higher for black men and men with a family history of prostate cancer.
For many years we’ve been very fortunate to talk to Chris Booth, the founder of Men’s Health Charity CHAPS. The charity have been running screening sessions for prostate cancer for several years – and I have been to some of the sessions myself.
Chris came down to the studio to talk to Michelle Ward about their latest screening event, which is taking place at Brentwood FC, located at the Brentwood Centre, from 10am – 2pm on Wednesday 9 July 2025.
It’s a simple blood test – and it saves lives. The cost is £35 per test and you will need to book in advance.
And as an added bonus – you can meet Barry Hearn OBE, president of Matchroom Sport, who are sponsors of the Brentwood Town FC’s home and away shirts. Barry continues to be active in helping Brentwood’s community assets, being a minority shareholder in the club. He’s called on more men to get themselves checked for prostate cancer after he underwent surgery late last year.
You can hear Chris’s interview again at phoenixfm.com – and book the test at chaps.uk.com/book-event-main.
