Our first show in April brought with it new music from the legend Smokey Robinson. The Soul legend, at 85, has announced his ‘Smokey Legacy Tour’ across the US and UK, where he will be performing his classics and songs from his latest album What The World Needs Now. Last night we heard his recently released single ‘Be Thankful For What You’ve Got’, a cover of William DeVaughn’s 1974 original single, it’s smooth and soulful, simply Smokey through and through.
We spun back to the year TopGun and The Breakfast Club graced our screens, 1986, where Cameo, Midnight Star and Gwen Guthrie released three big soul classics. For Soulful but not Soul one of the acts we heard from was The Beatles and we spoke about the recently announced lineup for Sam Mendes’ biopic about the Fab Four.
