Philip Wharam – Men’s Mental Health

Poor mental health can affect people of any gender, but mental health outcomes for men and women aren’t equal. Due to societal expectations of masculinity, men are less likely to talk to others about their feelings, so they tend to suffer in silence.

Philip Wharam, is a counsellor and psychotherapist and came in today to talk about men’s mental Health and his #mendonttalk mental health campaign.

A fire service has called on people to routinely check in on their neighbours after data revealed that four out of five fire fatalities were older people who lived alone.

Birthday today – 1950 – Steve Hackett, English singer-songwriter, guitarist, and producer gained prominence as the lead guitarist of the progressive rock band Genesis from 1971 to 1977. Hackett contributed to six Genesis studio albums, three live albums, seven singles and one EP before he left to pursue a solo career.

Martin’s Choice – My song suggestion for his week involves someone who we have both spoken about. He’s been referred to as the invisible man! You could have sat next to him on a bus and not realised who he was!

A very unassuming guy from Cleethorpes north east England who wrote some of the Most popular songs of all time!

Not least of all Micheal Jackson’s albums, Off the wall and thriller! I am of course talking about The brilliant Rod Temperton.

Whilst working on one of his own bands albums for Heatwave he had a phone call from top American musician and producer Quincy Jones who having listened to his music asked him to go to America and write songs for Micheal Jackson and others

The song I’m requesting is Always and Forever as it’s near valentine’s day and this is a great love song Performed by his own band Heatwave. Unfortunately Rod Temperton passed away at the age of sixty six in 2016 after a long fight with cancer, had  he lived longer I’m sure he would have written even more fantastic songs.

Song for Daphne “Night and Day” is a popular song by Cole Porter that was written for the 1932 musical Gay Divorce. It is perhaps Porter’s most popular contribution to the Great American Songbook and has been recorded by dozens of musicians. NPR says “within three months of the show’s opening, more than 30 artists had recorded the song.”

Fred Astaire introduced “Night and Day” on November 29, 1932, when Gay Divorce opened at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre.
