Being a Tuesday, Margaret Mills joined me once more and for her historical feature today, took time out to look at 2 local churches – St Nicholas at Ingrave and St Mary in Great Warley.
You can listen here to what Margaret had to say about these churches: –
Returning with a bit of a bump to earth we reported on vehicle thefts in the UK.
You may not be surprised to learn that the most commonly stolen vehicles in here are Ford Fiestas, followed by the Ford Focus and Volkswagen Golf.
The most common vehicle body type stolen are five-door hatchback cars, followed by estate cars, motorbikes and small vans.
But what might surprise you is the sheer the number of commercial vehicles that get nicked, possibly because of their inherent value or possibly for components.
But some of the stolen vehicles include a number of truly bizarre items, including: –
4 Bin lorries, 9 ambulances, 3 road sweepers, 2 tar sprayers, 7 ride-on lawn mowers, a hearse, a concrete mixer, a sewage tank emptier and a fire engine!
How on earth could you hide or disguise a sewage tank emptier, a tar sprayer and a dustcart?
Presumably some will be taken for re-sale, a few for a joy ride but many will be taken to be broken up for parts or shipped abroad.
Clearly we all need to think about how we can make the thieves’ task more difficult, however large or small the vehicle, and no matter whether it is kept on the road, in a shed or a locked garage.
“We all lose out every time an insurer pays up after a theft, as premiums rise a bit more.”
So You have been warned!
Look forward to having your company once more next week,
Scott
