Our show dedicated to England’s 55th best team, Leyton Orient, is just about to enter its ninth season on air with England’s best community radio station (that’s us, by the way).

The Orient Hour team, led by Andy Gilson, has so many links in the community that there’s no shortage of things to talk about even in those three months when there’s not much league football going on.

Last week, Orient Hour team members Christian Wheeler and Darin Burrows welcomed Arvi Sahota and Sat Nandrha from the Punjabi O’s to the studio.

The supporters’ group set themselves up in January, inspired by the Punjabi community in Leyton and beyond. They have official backing from the club, with Orient winger Theo Archibald acting as official ambassador.

Arvi said: “Through inspiration of other clubs, we looked to set up a Punjabi supporters group, and we said – let’s just do it. Our main goal was to use the inspiration of the Punjabi community here in Leyton.

“We want to raise awareness of our South Asian fan base, but we want to be inclusive of everybody. Anyone who wants to learn anything about the Punjabi culture, we are happy to share. We’re a fun culture who love to have a good time, and we want to share that with everyone!”

You can hear Arvi and Sat talking to Christian and Darin at phoenixfm.com.

Orient fans can follow the Punjabi O’s on Instagram and Twitter at @ThePunjabiOs. Supporters can also contact the group by email at thepunjabios@hotmail.com.
